UnWired Buyer Adds AOL Co-Founder to Board of Directors Marc Seriff Brings Over 30 Years of Business Development and Internet Technology Experience

Austin, TX (PRWeb) January 19, 2007 -- UnWired Buyer, Inc., a provider of real-time, interactive mobile notification and transaction services via voice, today announced that Marc Seriff, founding CTO of America Online (AOL), will join its Board of Directors. The success the young company has achieved since its launch in September 2005, and future potential in the mobile commerce marketplace attracted Seriff to join UnWired Buyer's board of directors.

"Marc brings a wealth of Internet and e-commerce expertise that will provide a valuable level of strategic depth to our board," said Indraj "Indy" Gill, CEO of UnWired Buyer. "His record of serial entrepreneurship and contributions to the Internet industry show the value his experience holds for UnWired Buyer."

After earning a BA from the University of Texas and an MS in Computer Science, Seriff joined Telenet Communications in 1974 where he and his colleagues created the first commercial email system. At Digital Music, Seriff helped develop the first music download service introduced in 1981. He became the founding CTO of America Online (AOL) in 1985 where he spent the next 11 years building AOL's technology and business partnerships. After retiring from AOL in 1996, Seriff returned to Central Texas where he has been involved in the creation of the Dell Jewish Community Center, served as a Trustee for the Long Center of Performing Arts and is currently active with the University of Texas' advisory councils. Not one to typically perform board level activities, UnWired Buyer's momentum helped Seriff decide to assume his current role with the company.

"UnWired Buyer has proven its model for mobile phone alerts via the voice channel through its work with the largest online marketplace, eBay," said Marc Seriff. "Now the fun begins as the company explores where to apply that model next. Mobile commerce and mobile advertising via UnWired Buyer's interactive services are attractive to a host of consumers, businesses and marketers. The ability to reach 100 percent of mobile phone users with targeted, opt-in messages and services is unique and exciting. I look forward to being a part of UnWired Buyer's growth and success."

Since launching in September of 2005, UnWired Buyer quickly demonstrated the advantages it brought to the eBay ecosystem with its solution and has grown its user base to over 125,000 users. The mobile bidding solution allows eBay customers to wirelessly participate in the critical final minutes of an auction-style listing when over half of the bidding activity occurs.

According to UnWired Buyer's research, eBay buyers who use UnWired Buyer's solution to bid are winning 51 percent of the time and the offering benefits more than just buyers. Fifteen percent of auction-style listings won with the service had received zero bids prior to the phone call, allowing eBay sellers to move inventory and recognize revenue faster. In July, eBay announced that it would white-label UnWired Buyer for eBay as eBay Phone Alerts allowing eBay customers to sign up for the mobile bidding solution directly through its web site. Prior to this, users only subscribed to the solution on www.unwiredbuyer.com and now both channels of access are available to eBay users. UnWiredBuyer is a member of the eBay Developers Program.
